UCAS Guides - Now Available!

Dear all,

UCAS Guides are now available to help you complete your UK university application in addition to support offered by the Higher Education Team. They can be found in the following locations:

Personalised Learning Centre
Higher Education Department (1st Floor Round Church Street building)
Next to the Higher Education Notice Board in the canteen

If you are having difficulties or need advice regarding any aspect of this process, do come and see us in the HE department.

University Fairs in September, October and November 2011

Dear all,

The Higher Education Team would like to highlight several University Fairs that will help you to decide on which universities to apply to. As you are aware, you should be registering on UCAS now, filling in your applications and finalising your personal statements in anticipation of future deadlines.

Note these events in your calendars, particularly the University Information Day in Cambridge as this is a local university fair that is only 10 minutes away from the college. You can easily go to the event after classes finish on Thursday 29th September as the event starts from 1600 and ends at 1900.

Loughborough University Presentation (Monday 12th September at 1200 in BH9)

The Higher Education Department is pleased to announce that a special presentation has been organised with Loughborough University, a top 20 university (Times Good University Guide 2012).

This will be presented by Martyn Edwards Senior International Officer who will answer questions about courses, the campus and other important aspects about the university.

The presentation will be held in BH9 on Monday 12th September at 1200.

University Fair in Earl's Court London (Saturday 14th May)

Dear AS Students,

The HE Team wanted to highlight another university fair event happening on Saturday 14th May between 1200-1700 in Earl's Court, London. This university fair will allow students to find out more from an International student’s perspective along with information about courses, location and career prospects.

It is a similar event to the one that occurred on 7th May so if you missed that, there is still a chance to find out more about universities. In addition there will be a number of seminars happening during the day giving you more in-depth information about the following topics:

12:30 UCAS and Applying for Undergraduate study
13:00 IELTS: Increase your score
13:30 How to write a powerful Personal Statement
14:00 Manage your Student VISA
14:30 Foundation Programmes at the University of Southampton
15:00 Getting in to studying sciences at Oxford

16:00 Presentation by Pearson’s English Qualification

Personal Statements

Dear AS Students,

After our Personal Statement session on Monday 2nd May, you should now have started to write your personal statements. Continue to work with your Personal Tutor on your statements and remember that is the most important aspect of your university application.

Personal Statement packs were distributed for Mathematics & Sciences, Economics, Finance and Business. If you require more examples of personal statements for different subjects, please contact the Higher Education Team at highereducation@catscambridge.com

If you require further guidance or help with statements come and make an appointment with the Higher Education Team.

Aim to have a first draft of your personal statement completed and given to your Personal Tutor before the end of May.

Next week's Personal Education session will be about Personal Statements and actually starting to write the key element of your future university application. It is the most important part of your application and starting earlier will put you in a much stronger position when competing for university courses. You are to register with your PT then make your way to Rank Hall; the detail are as follows:

There will be a University Fair occurring on Saturday 7th May at 1200-1600 in London which will provide information about universities focused on international students. Amongst the information available will be IELTS requirements, entry requirements, visa information and course information.
